IPAF Scissor Lift and Boom Course is for MEWP operators seeking to earn a globally recognised IPAF certification in Scissor Lift (3a) and Telescopic Boom (3b) machines.
The IPAF operator course instructs a candidate to prepare and safely operate various types of MEWPs, also called cherry pickers, aerial lifts or scissor lifts. IPAF’s MEWP Operator Training is certified by TÜV as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878 Mobile elevating work platforms – Operator (driver) training.
The course is suited for operators with previous MEWP experience who want to be qualified at the international standard. IPAF MEWP operators must hold a PAL Card to prove they have trained to the highest standard. This training will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to prepare and safely operate a Scissor Lift and Telescopic Boom as outlined in Health & Safety Legislation. A Scissor Lift is used to lift one or multiple workers vertically up and down to high areas, and a Telescopic Boom is used to lift workers to areas inaccessible by the lift itself. Trainees, maximum group size is 4, will avail of classroom-based learning and practical experience in ISM’s state-of-the-art IPAF-accredited Training Centre in Tallaght with our IPAF-accredited instructors.
Topics covered include:
- Understanding the MEWP controls and additional equipment
- Using a safety harness and attaching it to anchor points
- Following the steps during an emergency lowering procedure
This course includes introduction to safe and correct Harness use within the IPAF Scissor Lift 3A & Boom 3B course content. The Harness introduction is designed for new and experienced operators required to use a harness whilst operating a mobile elevated work platform. Upon completing, participants can inspect, use and safely store a harness. This course includes the laws and regulations, personal protective equipment, pre-use Inspection, harness and anchor points suspension trauma, packing and storing equipment and rescue planning.
