First Aid Responder (FAR) – 3 Day Course (Tallaght)
This 3‑day PHECC‑accredited First Aid Responder course equips participants with the skills, knowledge and confidence to provide effective first aid in the workplace or any environment. Training includes life‑saving interventions, injury management, and the use of an AED. This course replaces the former Occupational First Aid – QQI (FETAC) Level 5 qualification.

Employees across all industries and the self‑employed who require full First Aid Responder certification in line with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007.

Course Background
The Health & Safety Authority recognises PHECC First Aid Response (FAR) as the required standard for workplace first aid. The FAR standard was developed by the Pre‑Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC), the national regulator for pre‑hospital emergency care training in Ireland.
Course Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Provide life‑saving interventions until emergency services arrive
- Respond to both life‑threatening and non‑life‑threatening conditions
- Deliver first aid in workplace, home, and recreational environments
- Demonstrate composure, competence, and confidence in emergency situations
- Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and administer aspirin in suspected heart attack cases

Course Ideal For
Employees of all business sizes and sectors, and individuals who require workplace first aid training.
Training Methodology
Training combines practical, scenario‑based learning with interactive classroom instruction. Instructors are experienced frontline emergency care professionals.
Assessment
Assessment is conducted on Day 3 and includes:
- Multiple‑choice written exam
- Two practical skills assessments
Participants must achieve 80% or higher in each element.
Certification
Successful participants receive a PHECC First Aid Response Certificate, valid for 2 years. Recertification is required every 2 years.
