This is covered by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, which sets out employers’ and employees’ duties to maintain a safe work environment. The most common non-fatal injuries are manual handling-related, with 25% of these accidents happening in the industrial sector.

What is Safe Pass training?
Safe Pass training is a one-day safety awareness programme generally aimed at those working in the construction sector. The programme aims to raise the standard of safety awareness in the construction industry so that after the completion of the one-day awareness programme, all construction workers can positively contribute to preventing accidents and ill health while working on the site.
Who needs Safe Pass training?
Under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, Safe Pass / Safety Awareness Programmes only apply to:
(a) Craft and general construction workers, (b) Persons undertaking on-site security work, and (c) Persons or classes of persons as may be prescribed by the Minister.
Can I do this course online?
No, the course is classroom-based training.
What is the standard course duration and how many years is the certificate for?
The course duration is one full day. The certification is valid for 4 years.
Is there an exam?
You must complete a multiple-choice questionnaire at the end of your course to demonstrate that you fully understood the course content.
Where are the courses located?
We deliver our public courses from our training centres in Tallaght, Dublin 24 and Finglas, Dublin 11, and we also train off-site nationwide at our customer’s locations.

Manual Handling FAQs
What is manual handling?
Manual handling is any activity where a person moves a load by lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, holding or restraining. A typical example is transporting heavy boxes by hand in a warehouse. The risk of carrying out a manual handling task without proper training is an injury to the spine, arms, legs and joints
What is included in training?
Participants will learn everything they need to know about moving loads safely in the workplace. Our ISM instructor will explain how a load carried can impact the joints and muscles and the long-term effects of poor manual handling technique on the skeleton. Participants will watch and engage in a practical demonstration of lifting, pushing, pulling and storing loads. Everyone will finish the course with a greater understanding of safe manual handling practices in the workplace.

What certification will I get?
All participants will receive an ISM Certificate of Competition provided they pass all theoretical and practical elements of the course. The certification is valid for three years. You can renew your certificate by completing the course again.
How much does this course cost?
The manual handling course costs €60 at our Finglas Training Centre and €39* at our Tallaght Training Centre. *Online exclusive.
Can I do this course online?
No. Our manual handling course occurs in person at our Finglas and Tallaght Training Centres.
Is there an exam?
All participants will sit an exam at the end of their course. The exam involves a multiple choice questionnaire and a practical demonstration to show you understand the safe techniques for moving heavy loads.
