Voi will make its online e-scooter safety school available in Ireland for the first time.

Following the legalising of e-scooters in Ireland, the Irish School of Motoring (ISM) is partnering with Voi, one of Europe’s leading e-scooter hire company, to promote safe and responsible riding.

E-scooters are set to be legalised on Irish roads, with Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan signing the Road Traffic and Roads Act 2023 into law in June. The new law will allow the government to better regulate e-scooters, by specifying power, speed and weight among other things.

As part of the partnership, the ISM is working with Voi to produce an Irish module for its “Ride like Voilá” online e-scooter training school, which will soon be available in Ireland. The module covers all aspects of e-scooter riding – such as how to start and stop, as well as how to ride alongside other road users and pedestrians.

The ISM will also introduce more awareness training of e-scooters into its learner and advanced driving lessons, aimed at both new and experienced drivers.

“Learning to share roads safely between all road users, from learner drivers to professional drivers and now including e-scooters, is vital,” said Karl Walsh, managing director of ISM.

parallel with other road users.”
